Athens Race for the Cure 2024
What is the Athens Race for the Cure?
The Athens Race for the Cure is part of an international series of races dedicated to raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research and support. Organised in partnership with the Hellenic Association of Women with Breast Cancer (Alma Zois) and Susan G. Komen, this event provides vital support to the breast cancer community in Greece and beyond.
Participants can choose to either run or walk, making the event accessible to all ages and fitness levels. Whether you’re competing in the 5K race or joining the more leisurely 2K walk, every step you take helps raise awareness and funds for an important cause.
A Route Through History
Starting from the iconic Zappeion Hall, the race winds through some of Athens’ most historic streets and landmarks, including parts of the city’s ancient centre. The unique combination of athletic spirit and cultural heritage gives participants an unforgettable experience as they race or walk through this beautiful city.
A Day of Unity and Awareness
Race for the Cure is more than just a run; it’s a day of unity and solidarity. The event brings together survivors, families, friends, and supporters to celebrate life and raise awareness about early detection, treatment, and support for those living with breast cancer. Post-race activities include awareness workshops, live music, and educational talks.
How to Participate
You don’t need to be a professional athlete to take part in the Athens Race for the Cure. The event is designed for everyone, with options for both runners and walkers. Registration is simple and can be completed online, with all proceeds going toward breast cancer research and support services.
- 5K Run: A timed race for participants who want to challenge themselves while contributing to a great cause.
- 2K Walk: A family-friendly, untimed walk that allows participants of all ages to join in and support the cause.
Even if you can’t attend in person, virtual participation options are available, allowing supporters to contribute from anywhere in the world.
Why It Matters
Breast cancer continues to affect millions of women and men around the world. In Greece alone, thousands are diagnosed each year. The funds raised by the Race for the Cure go directly toward supporting research, early detection programs, and patient support services, making a tangible difference in the fight against this disease.
